The mint is generally grown because of its leaves and because of the essential oil. This herb contains about 1.25% essential oil, 50 to 90% menthol and 5 to 20% menthone. The essential oil is obtained by extraction from the stems and leaves of mint.
Wild species of mint, as well tamed, are used for the preparation of tasty and healthy tea, which helps in many diseases. So mint tea is useful for headaches, upset stomach, insomnia, general weakness and malaise, cough and cold.
In the folk medicine, mint is shown as a natural remedy for: abdominal diseases (diarrhea and inflation of the stomach), respiratory disease (inflammation of the mouth, throat and cough), anxiety, diseases of the gallbladder and biliary tract, intestinal diseases, liver etc.
